It was Christmas morning and all the presents had been opened. Time to switch gears and get the kids dressed before our visitors come over for lunch.
Laura gets Lena dressed and I’m helping Cole get his teeth brushed.
Lena runs out of her room looking beautiful in her new dress. I say,
Wow, Lena you look great. Cole, doesn’t your sister look beautiful?
He says,
Yes, but why do we have to get dressed now?
The “Yes, but” response is one of the more common things I hear from Cole. I think it really means,
I acknowledge that you said something and now I’m going to get back to what I want to talk about.
In this case, I’m not sure he has even glanced at Lena in her new dress. I suppose his was a better answer than “no.”
A few minutes later, Cole gets dressed and runs out of his room. He needs help buttoning his shirt. I help him and say,
Cole, you look very handsome.
Lena calls out from across the room,
You look so beautiful, you handsome guy Cole.
She then runs across the room and gives him a big hug.
Note: I had been holding off on posting this for some pictures of the kids, but we haven’t culled through them yet.
