Lena is very interested in cooking. She loves cookbooks and will regularly cut recipes out of magazines for us to try (she loves Family Fun, Sunset, anything with recipes). We recently bought her the cookbook for kids Honest Pretzels by Mollie Katzen (of Moosewood fame). The first recipe she wanted to make was… well, honest pretzels, of course. Unfortunately we ran into a little problem, namely, the dough, which required yeast, didn’t rise. Not an inch. I was all ready to throw the stuff out and declare defeat but chipper Lena thought we should try anyway. And good thing we did. Lena shaped and rolled all the pretzels and they were pretty darn tasty.
