Dropping off Lena at school this morning, her teacher told me that she had started reading. I thought she meant that Lena had been recognizing words, but she said, no, actually reading.
So, Lena sat down with me and picked up a book and read it to me. I looked out for memorization — kids can memorize complicated passages without even realizing it — and this was reading.
Leaving the classroom, the teacher asked if Lena had read to me. And I said, yeah, she read the whole book.
Her eyes lit up. She said, Really? I guess Lena was able to do more than the teacher thought.
It is really a wonderful seeing your kids grow like that, seemingly right in front of your eyes.
